Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure

Alright, get ready. There's a whole lot of boring coming your way! This is everything you need to know about all the data/personal information that may be collected here at

What the heck is a cookie?

Unfortunately, it's not something you can eat. A web cookie is:

An HTTP cookie (also called web cookie, Internet cookie, browser cookie, or simply cookie) is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored on the user's computer by the user's web browser while the user is browsing.

How uses cookies

Comments: If you leave a comment on my site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. This is so you don't have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Ads: Because I sometimes use display advertising here on, my site uses third-party cookies to collect information (such as browsing history). This is to make the ads you see more relevant to you. For example, if you've recently done an internet search for "Jane Austin books," you might see an ad for Pride and Prejudice on my site.

If you would like to opt out of display advertising, you can do so here.

Affiliate Links: These are special links that use cookies to track which users I refer to a given product. Let's say I bought a book that I really loved, and then I recommended it to you using an affiliate link here on the blog - When you click that link, a cookie tracks that referral back to me so that I can earn income from any purchases made from referrals. I currently use affiliate links through Skimlinks, Homeschool Planet, and Amazon.

Google Analytics: Cookies are also collected for site stats (so I can see how many visitors I've had on my blog). I use Google Analytics to crawl my site so I can get insights on visitors and pageview information. For more information, view Google's privacy policy.

Newsletter: I use Google's FeedBurner to collect email addresses for my newsletter. For more information on how FeedBurner stores your data, see their privacy and terms.

Other Data

Contact Form

The information you submit (name & email) is stored in the database and is emailed directly to me. This email will include your IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message. I do not share this information.

Sharing uses sharing buttons in each post to make it easy for you to share content that you like. Each sharing button (Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, etc) loads content directly from its service in order to display the button as well as information and tools for you to use. As a result, each service can in turn collect information about you.

Embedded content from other websites

Posts on may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

It sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. Basically, if you see a YouTube video embedded in one of my posts, the information collected will be the same as if you had watched the video directly from YouTube.

And we're done!

If you actually made it this far, I applaud you. You deserve a real cookie. I'm going to go reward myself for writing this with a Dr Pepper. Yum!
